September POP Quizzes :-)

Hello First Grade Team!!! I'm so excited to post all the previous pop quizzes on our classroom blog! This gives you the option of  deleting the morning pop quizzes (once you have read them of course;-) from your  email while still being able to access all the pop quizzes  given throughout the year! Technology Rocks! Have fun quizzing your child and yourself! Ha! Go First Grade!!

2. What does a sentence always begin with? A Capital Letter :-)
3. What does a sentence always end with? An end mark
4. What are the three types of end marks? A period, a question mark, and an exclamation mark
5. Can you say the following sentence using gestures?     I am in first grade.    Your child  should have made  a capital letter by putting one hand up and one hand down, noted the ending of  the sentence by making a  screeching sound, and made the appropriate end mark (a  period)  by using their pointer finger and saying "boop". (Stay tuned for a video, modeling this:-)

First of all, I have to say, the children have been adjusting well to the routines and procedures, they even earned marbles for lining up from recess within 30 seconds! YahooJ Continue to  encourage your child  to do  this  every day!  I am so proud of themJ_ Second of all, we’ve been continuing our practice of naming the parts of an addition sentence as well as continuing our study of reading comprehension, with the main focus being  Genre, character and setting. With that said, here is your Thursday morning POP Quiz:
1.      Which sign is used in an addition sentence, a plus sign or a minus sign? A plus sign. Ask them to show you the gestureJ
2.      What is the first addend in this addition sentence: 7+3+10?   7
3.      What is the second addend in the addition sentence: 7+3= 10? 3
4.      What is the sum of the addition sentence: 7+3=10? 10
5.      In the story Pam and Sam, is the setting outside near a stream of water, or inside a house? The setting is outside near a stream of water.
6.      Who are the main characters in the Story Pam and Sam? Pam and Sam are the main characters.
7.      What does genre mean? Genre means “what type of story is it”.  Ask them to show you the sentence gesture for this. Also make sure your child answers the question in a complete sentenceJ
I’m working on some videos to model the gestures we use in class.  I would love to use some of my students for this project!  Please send me a quick email with a “yes”, it would be okay for me to record  your child in a video., or a No.  The video will be viewed through YOU-TUBE, but only by the, people who have been granted access.
